Our Story

ICCASA is a registered NGO based in Kenya, established in 2017. The organization has active programs, projects and partnerships across Eastern, Central, and Southern Africa, ICCASA is committed to advancing inclusive, data-driven climate solutions that empower communities and build long-term resilience. Over time, it has grown into a Pan-African organization advancing inclusive and gender-responsive climate action across the continent. ICCASA’s mission is to bridge gaps in gender and social inclusion by generating evidence through gender-focused climate research, fostering knowledge sharing, and promoting capacity development that enhances adaptive capacity and resilience among communities in Africa.

Through its gender-transformative approach, ICCASA supports governments, civil society, and communities to develop and implement gender-responsive climate policies, plans, and financing strategies. It also works to dismantle deep-rooted gender stereotypes and structural barriers that limit women’s participation and leadership in climate adaptation and mitigation.

Up to date, ICCASA has undertaken operate climate interventions across multiple African countries—including Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Togo, Congo Republic, Egypt, and Seychelles. Its areas of focus span research, community resilience, disability inclusion, gender advocacy, climate justice, environmental health, indigenous peoples’ rights, and policy advocacy—advancing a just and inclusive climate future for all.

Its mandate includes advancing gender equality in climate actions, ensuring that all vulnerable and marginalized groups are central to building resilience. ICCASA develops inclusive adaptation strategies tailored to the diverse needs of African communities, particularly those most vulnerable to climate impacts. The organization also facilitates knowledge exchange among stakeholders, advocates for policies that prioritize gender equity, and continuously monitors and evaluates its programs to ensure they contribute to a sustainable and resilient Africa.
